Dick Fisher - background
Richard A. (Dick) Fisher was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Westchester County. From an early age he was fascinated by light and consequently, photography. As a junior at Ossining High School he won a statewide student arts contest for a multimedia creation combining his photography, poetry, and music. (Raga to Being) He was then selected to attend Bensalem, the Experimental College at Fordham University for three full years of self directed study of photography, (darkroom production), film, (appreciation & production), mass communication, (internship with Marshall McLuhan, “the medium is the message” guy), television, and radio production. After receiving his BA from Fordham he worked as a radio announcer in Springfield, MA and apprenticed to a carpenter building single family homes.
The next ten years included; communal living in Vermont (AKA being a hippie), communal living in Israel (kibbutz dairy farm), carpenter, gentleman farmer, sculptor's apprentice, musician, volunteer firefighter, and construction site surveyor - among other things, After returning to school and earning a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University, Newhouse School of Communication he began his life long career as a filmmaker.
